Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois has said that he wants to resolve the uncertainty around his future before the end of the season and reiterated that being separated from his family is making him consider a move to Spain.
It has been reported that Real Madrid are interested in signing Courtois. He is in the penultimate year of his contract at Chelsea and has regularly spoken of his love of Spain since he spent three years on loan at Atletico Madrid.
Last month Courtois said that he wanted to delay contract talks until nearer the end of the season and there has been consistent speculation that he will move to Spain. Furthermore, his two children are living with his ex-girlfriend in Madrid and he would like to be able to spend more time with them.
Speaking to VTM Stadion he said, “It [my private situation] is not always easy, but I’d also seen this coming. I knew that she [his former girlfriend] would return to Madrid, so that has its influence too. I love my children to death. When you miss them, you are sometimes wondering: shouldn’t I play in Spain in the next few years? That’s why I want to take my time to make a decision on that contract extension.”
However, he denied that his £200,000 a week salary is the reason for talks being delayed. Furthermore, he said that he enjoys playing for Chelsea and living in London and that he sees no reason not so sign a new deal. On the other hand he said, “I just want to consider all options. Everything has to be right.”
